The Wallace Collection

Housed in the property of the Seymour family, the collection has approximately 5,000 objects and items. Mostly from the collection of Richard Seymour-Conway, the 4th Marquess of Hertford, he left the house and the art inside to Sir Richard Wallace. The latter, his illegitimate son, then lived in the house together with his wife. In 1897, Lady Wallace, now a widow, bequeathed the townhouse and the art in it to the British nation. Tate Britain

Formerly known as the National Gallery of British Art, Tate Britain is one of the largest of its kind in the country. It opened in 1897, and is a part of England’s Tate gallery network together with Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives, and Tate Modern. It houses various works from notable painters like William Blake, John Constable, and Anna Lea Merritt, among others. Particularly, a large amount of J.M.W Turner’s work is permanently displayed here.

Serpentine Galleries

Famous for their ever changing pavilion, the Serpentine Galleries is comprised of two parts, the main Serpentine Gallery and the Serpentine Sackler Gallery. Situated in the Kensington Gardens, a bridge over the Serpentine Lake connects these two galleries. The National Gallery located in London is one of the world’s most visited museums, in the league with the Louvre, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It came into being after the British government bought a small collection of paintings in 1824. After that, the gallery was filled with private donations from various collectors and enthusiasts.
